The increasing sophistication of threats, as well as their sheer growth in sheer volume, has presented challenges for organizations when protecting confidential information.

According to Information Management, a new report released by the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Identity Theft 911 and USLAW NETWORK states that modern security requires a multi-layer approach.

Each measure should add a specific layer of safety. For example, a document security solution can address the need to restrict access to sensitive data, such as intellectual property.

"Data protection must be considered through its entire life cycle, from the creation or intake of the material to its final disposition and disposal," the report stated, according to Information Management. "Layered security that provides multiple rings or 'perimeters' of protection, early detection of unauthorized access and preferably no single point of failure has become the goal and best practice for data security."

According to a report from solution provider SafeNet, more organizations are also looking into tools with authentication capabilities to protect data. The company's survey found that 45 percent of resellers have fielded requests from customers for such solutions.
