Recent developments in the IT world have necessitated that businesses deploy data-centric solutions like encryption and PDF protection rather than end-point security to safeguard their sensitive information and intellectual property.

Technology news provider Network Computing recently noted that the growing mobile workforce and the enterprise's shift to the cloud are leading companies to search for new security solutions. Given that employees are now accessing information from a variety of endpoints – PCs, smartphones and tablets among them – it no longer makes sense to protect the individual device. Instead, companies must implement measures that guard the data itself.

Citing a study from InformationWeek, Network Computing stated that 47 percent of IT professionals have made data encryption for mobile devices a priority. Meanwhile, 64 percent of companies are using cloud services, which means data is no longer stored on the device itself, but rather on the server of a hosted services provider.

With encryption and other data-centric security solutions, businesses are able to protect their information more effectively, making it difficult for unauthorized users to view files and documents. As enterprise data volumes continue to grow, such an approach will be essential to keep information safe, experts say.
