Computex Taipei 2010 has ended for the 30th year and I got to see many great products. Some products are on sale now while other products are concept, pre-commercial or about to head into production and will hit store shelves in the months ahead!

Let’s kick things off with a note about the next wave of mobile computing and our excitement at Vitrium Systems. I wrote earlier this week that, “the PC is dead!” That’s tough to say when there are over a billion personal computers in use. Transformation is occurring with PC’s faster than ever before. Consider that it may be a combination of innovation, connectivity and the cloud! Everything is heading into the cloud with the latest chips, improved power management, and increased functionality with better user interfaces. So at Computex Taipei, I saw an explosion of new devices and new categories all rushing to market. It reminds me of Boujolais nouveau and the race to get the first bottles of the vintage to market.

Our excitement at Vitrium over this next wave of mobile personal computing is because Vitrium’s customers now have the ability to control, track and interact with their documents using mobile computing devices such as the iiView Corporation’s M1touch – Multi Touch Tablet PC. Vitrium’s advantage in the market continues to be our seamless end-user experience and the ability for users to view their documents on mobile devices (like the M1touch) that are already on sale. Which is fantastic!

The M1touch tablet PC was on display at the Microsoft booth at Computex Taipei. Wow it is sleek at 10.1 inches, it has a multi touch screen and weighs in at only 1.2Kg. It is running Microsoft Windows 7 Home and Premium on the Intel Atom N450 processor at 1.66 GHz with 2 GB of RAM and a 250GB hard disk drive. It is fully loaded with 2.0 speakers, 1.3 mega pixel camera, 1 – two in one audio port, 3 USB 2.0, HDMI to VGA, 1 DC port, 1 SIM card slot, 4 in 1 card reader and up to a 3 hour battery. All this for about USD $500!

Microsoft wasn’t letting this out of the case so I photographed the M1touch at the Microsoft booth with the assistance of Magdalena Hyckova, Sales Manager at iiView. Thanks Magdalena, we can’t wait to get our hands on one of these! I didn’t get the date the M1touch went on sale, but Magdalena said it has been out on the market now for about 6+ weeks. The M1touch is one of the very few tablets in the market for sale today!

Asus launched two 3D monitors at Computex Taipei. The 23 inch VG236H LCD monitor and the 27 inch PG276 LCD monitor. I don’t know much about monitors, but these 3D monitors were something else. Could there be a market for 3D PDF’s? Time will tell. These 3D monitors were very cool and are expected to ship at the end of June and the 23 inch will retail for USD $600.

Onkyo DX1007A5B is the first dual display laptop I have ever seen. Made in Japan and available only in Japan, it may be worth the trip just to own the coolest netbook ever! Retailing at about USD$1,000 this netbook has two 10.1 inches displays that fold/slide into a single display. It behaves like a traditional tablet with a turn and flip style display. 2GB of RAM, 320 GB hard disk drive powered by an AMD Neo processor MV-40 at 1.6GHz, 1.3 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, micro SD slot, USB 2.0, fingerprint sensor, 3.7 hour battery and more! Running Windows 7 Home and Premium, wow, this is impressive. I expected a touch screen and hope for this on future models.

I had a great time at Computex Taipei 2010 and I hope to get back there next year. There’s so much new and exciting technology out there!!

Adobe Systems expected to incorporate similar technology to Vitrium’s docmetrics using Omniture technology. A newly-published report from The Future of Publishing makes a clear and compelling case for the value of measuring the metrics of PDF files.

For immediate Release

VANCOUVER (November 5, 2009) A newly-published report from The Future of Publishing makes a clear and compelling case for the value of measuring the metrics of PDF files.

Titled “Adobe’s Designs on Web Analytics: The Omniture Acquisition,” the report, by noted electronic publishing analyst Thad McIlroy, quotes from both outside analysts and Adobe executives to uncover the inside rationale for Adobe’s $1.8 billion purchase.

All parties surrounding the deal have recognized that a vital component of the web, PDF files, are not measured by web analytics firms today. Anil Batra, in his blog on web analytics states the case plainly. He sees numerous advantages in Adobe having the opportunity to add robust analytics to PDF files. Creators of PDF content will not only be able to see how many people downloaded a particular piece of content but they will also learn:

About the circulation of the content. Did a person who downloaded the paper pass it along to others?

How far did the reader go through the PDF?

If a reader searched for something in the PDF?

What were the keywords?

To tie the PDF analytics with site analytics to optimize and target the site side experience as well as arm the sales force with the information

Paul Weiskopf, Adobe Systems’ SVP of Corporate Development is quoted in an interview conducted exclusively for the report stating: “We think that there are opportunities for PDF, but we don’t see this as limited to any specific file format. We expect to be agnostic with respect to formats.” However, as McIlroy notes, “for several years Vitrium Systems has sold a similar offering called docmetrics. The key features of docmetrics might be incorporated into Adobe’s offerings in the years to come, but docmetrics makes it easy today to visualize how the Omniture acquisition can enable web analytics in PDF files. Docmetrics changes the value proposition for the dissemination of PDF documents. ”It’s remarkable,” McIlroy commented after the report’s release, “how far ahead of the curve Vitrium has been with docmetrics. It will surely be several years before Adobe can fully implement Omniture’s technology in Adobe’s Acrobat technology, which provides a great opportunity to Vitrium.” The report Adobe’s Designs on Web Analytics: The Omniture Acquisition, (2009 by The Future of Publishing) is available for download for $95 as a protectedpdf document at www.thefutureofpublishing.com.

Amy Wohl recently spoke to Keith Thompson of Vitrium Systems about how marketers should start measuring the success of their PDF white papers, not by the number of times it is downloaded, but by the number of sales leads it garners. The current method of gating white papers with web registration forms to capture sales leads, often causes readers to abandon the PDF document.

Tom identifies both the pros and cons of using web forms that require readers to register themselves and provide personal information before being given access to a white paper. He suggests another method, using docmetrics, that can boost a marketer’s ROI when creating content for white papers, running search engine advertising, email campaigns, and other online media distribution channels.

Vitrium Systems test drives the competition to prove out 95% abandonment rate when using web forms to gate content

For immediate Release

VANCOUVER (December 1st , 2008) Vitrium Systems, the leading name in smart document technology for PDF security and tracking, today announced the statistics proving a shocking 95% abandonment rate when using web forms to gate content. The test proves the success a company can have when using the web-based docmetrics application to generate leads and gather readership information.

Vitrium Systems conducted a split test on their website for 60 days to identify if web forms lead to a significant loss in readership. The results were staggering. They lost 95% of their audience. Less than 5% off all unique visitors actually completed the form and many of the form fills were bogus.

Vitrium turned to docmetrics i.e. ate their own dog food, and the results were mind-blowing. 45-50% of their audience was completing the form and the information was accurate!

Vitrium customers are finding the same results. “We are getting 100% more leads with docmetrics than with web forms. People feel more comfortable providing information if they have the option of saying no,” stated docmetrics customer Fard Johnmar, Founder, Envision Solutions. Web forms force prospects into being leads, while docmetrics allows them to qualify themselves by choosing to provide their information.

To read a case study on how a small business uses docmetrics to generate more qualified leads, please go to this link (http://www.docmetrics.com/Includes/PDFs/CaseStudies/envision_case_study_docmetrics.zip).

With The docmetrics Challenge, Vitrium has pledged to provide docmetrics trial users with free access to the system until they start see significant results. If a docmetrics user is not generating more, better-qualified sales leads when the initial 30-day trial period ends, Vitrium will extend that user’s trial, free of charge.
