VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada — November 8, 2006. Vitrium Systems, developer of the protectedpdf™ product suite, today announced that electronic publishing innovator Mark Resmer has joined the company's Board of Directors. Mr. Resmer stated that "in its range of products, Vitrium promises to realize the nascent potential of the digital rights management market segment."
In addition to his recognized knowledge of the education, publishing and DRM industries, Mr. Resmer has a strong track record of leadership in business and information technology. He was recently honored as one of ComputerWorld's Premier 100 IT Leaders of 2006.
Mr. Resmer currently serves as Chief Technology Officer for Best Associates in Dallas, a merchant banking firm that operates a number of prominent education companies. In addition, he is a board member at TextCentric in Pittsburgh, a company that provides technology products and services to the publishing industry.
Previously, Mr. Resmer led the technology direction of eCollege, helping the company to increase its market capitalization nearly tenfold in four years. Prior to that, he served as CTO for iUniverse, where he integrated many major DRM products into the company's core digital publishing system and developed an industry-leading custom publishing solution.
"Mark has an impressive record of innovation in electronic publishing technology," noted Vitrium President and CTO, Narayan Sainaney, "His experience bringing inventive new IT solutions to the market will prove invaluable as we continue to develop and launch new protectedpdf™ products."
Mr. Resmer noted: "I believe that Vitrium is in a position to realize the potential of DRM as an enabling technology, not a restrictive one. By focusing on the needs of the consumer as well as the publisher, Vitrium is moving the positioning of DRM towards being a technology that consumers welcome, rather than one that restricts their ability to do that they want."
