Endpoint security helps keep documents safe
Today's document protection strategies are much different than they were in the past, as companies now have to account for an increasing number of endpoints in the workplace, especially as the mobile landscape continues to evolve. This was highlighted in a recent study by the Ponemon Institute, which found poor endpoint security initiatives are costing organizations millions of dollars each year.
As bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and other mobile programs gain momentum in the corporate world, decision-makers need to be more aware of endpoints than ever before if they want to have effective document security.
"With more than 28 percent of corporate data residing exclusively on laptops, the proliferation of BYOD devices and the dangers of consumer-grade file sharing, endpoint protection is becoming increasingly critical," security expert Jaspreet Singh said. "The challenge is to do it without adding excessive IT management costs or complexity for end users."
In addition to traditional data loss prevention and security strategies, companies should consider using document rights management and other access control tools, which eliminate an unauthorized user's ability to view mission-critical resources without permission. This will inherently boost a firm's power to keep sensitive assets safe.
