Security initiatives need help

Jul 31, 2013 1:53:29 AM

The cybersecurity landscape is constantly evolving and making previously effective document protection initiatives irrelevant. A recent report by The Ponemon Institute highlighted this, saying the availability of resources is often the top priority for organizations today. That means denial-of-service attacks and identity breaches among the biggest risks.

"The reality is that cyberthreats are outpacing security professionals, leaving most organizations vulnerable and unprepared," said Avi Chesla, chief technology officer at Radware.

The study also found that companies are no longer solely concerned with leaking sensitive information themselves, as the use of hosted services and outsourced help has made the risk landscape much more expansive. This operational change has meant fewer organizations are able to implement the appropriate level of document security tools.

"There is a frightening gap that exists between the increasing severity of cyberattacks and the level of preparedness that exists in the industry," said Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute.

While there are many techniques that can enhance corporate document protection strategies, it remains vital that decision-makers understand what resources are under their control. If a company doesn't know what it needs to secure, it won't be able to avoid damaging breaches.
