Top 10 Features of 2025: The Best of Vitrium Systems

Written by Marcela Ortiz | Feb 3, 2026 6:13:35 PM

At Vitrium, building great DRM software is an ongoing process. As a trusted Digital Rights Management provider, we continuously evolve our platform to meet the real-world needs of our customers and the demands of a fast-moving digital landscape.

Throughout 2025, our team focused on delivering meaningful enhancements, refining existing features, introducing new capabilities, and ensuring everything meets our high standards for quality and performance. The result is a more modern, flexible DRM solution designed to help organizations protect their digital content with confidence. We’re excited to share the highlights of what we have accomplished.

Here are Vitrium’s top 10 features released in 2025:

1. Increased Web Viewer Encryption from 128-bit to 256-bit AES

While both 128-bit and 256-bit are considered military grade, 256-bit encryption provides a higher level of protection by increasing the complexity required to decrypt content without authorization.

This upgrade means stronger resistance against evolving cyber threats and greater confidence that sensitive digital content remains protected, both in transit and during viewing. For organizations handling high-value or confidential materials, 256-bit AES aligns with today’s strongest security standards and supports long-term content protection in an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape.

2. Updated ISO 27001 Certificate to Latest & More Rigorous Standard

Vitrium successfully renewed its ISO 27001 certification in 2025 and updated to the latest and more rigorous standard: ISO/IEC 27001:2022. This certification reinforces our ongoing commitment to information security best practices and continuous improvement across our organization.

The updated standard reflects today’s evolving risk landscape, with stronger controls around data protection, risk management, and operational resilience. By meeting these enhanced requirements, Vitrium continues to provide customers with a secure, compliant foundation for protecting their digital content with confidence.

3. Numerous Enhancements to Vitrium Web Viewer

Vitrium introduced a series of enhancements to its web viewer, focusing on usability, accessibility, and performance. These updates are designed to deliver a more intuitive and inclusive viewing experience for end users, while ensuring updates can be rolled out seamlessly without disruption.

  • New callout option in the annotations toolbar (see screenshot below)
  • Support for right-to-left localization languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, and others
  • Improved the update experience so it will not disrupt users in the middle of viewing content
  • Added German to the web viewer making this the 7th supported language
  • Text styling for annotations now appears on the left side of web viewer (see below)

4. New API for Protected PDF Download from Your Website or App

Vitrium introduced a new API known as "SsoPdfDownloadToken" which is designed to make it easier for Vitrium Enterprise Edition customers to use the protected PDF download option on their website or app with single sign-on (SSO) functionality. This new API and new approach to Vitrium protected PDF:

  • Simplifies the workflow for both developers and the customers' administrators

  • Reduces complexity by eliminating the store-and-forward workflows
  • Provides a smoother experience for end users who prefer to download the protected PDF

The new API pulls from the DRM policy already created in your Vitrium account, making the set-up easier to understand and manage for administrators. This enhancement fills an important gap in Vitrium's Enterprise APIs and positions "SSO PDF" as the recommended option when customers want a "download" option posted directly on their website or app.

5. Improved Portal and Web Viewer Login Page Designs

In 2025, Vitrium enhanced the portal and web viewer login page design to offer greater customization and a cleaner, more modern experience. Specific updates included:

  • Ability to add a background image to the login page making it pop a lot more!

  • Changing the language feature to an icon instead of words
  • Adding a 'show password' feature which is common for today's web apps
  • Using a more modern font, colors and messaging throughout

These updates allow organizations to better reflect their brand and help them create a more polished and professional first impression for their clients, students, or other types of users.

6. Shorter Portal URL

Available to customers that use a custom portal domain, this improvement allows our customers to use a simpler, shorter URL* for the Vitrium End User Portal that aligns with their company brand and makes it easier to copy into an email or other announcement for their customers.

Where Can I Find the Portal Domain?
In your Vitrium account, go to Settings > Portal Settings. Vitrium's default domain is view.protectedpdf.com and many of our customers are already using their own custom domain, but now you can send the short link rather than the long link to your customers.

Before: https://view.abccompany.com/portal/mycontent

After: https://view.abccompany.com

*Please note, this short URL will not work for those customers who use multiple Vitrium accounts.

7. Added OAuth2.0 to SMTP Settings

To ensure compatibility with Microsoft’s upcoming requirement, effective March 2026, which is making OAuth 2.0 mandatory for sending emails with the SMTP protocol, Vitrium has now added OAuth 2.0 support to its SMTP Settings feature. Vitrium's SMTP Setting handles all the emails that are sent from the within the system, such as notifications, alerts, and other automated messages. By adopting this modern authentication standard early, organizations can continue sending emails securely and reliably, while benefiting from improved security and compliance.

8. Improved Instructions in Protected PDF

To make the process of accessing a Vitrium-protected PDF a little clearer and more  user-friendly, we improved the pop-up messages that are presented in the PDF application when a document is opened. These updates were designed to simplify the process for users, while maintaining the PDF document's strong security controls.
  • Improved the instructions for how to disable the global object security policy
  • Customized the message specific to which application the PDF is being opened in:
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader on a PC
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader on a Mac
    • PDF-XChange Editor
  • Added a place for customers to include their own instructions link when users click the PDF download from within the web viewer

9. Other Improved Security Measures

As part of our ongoing commitment to protecting sensitive digital content, Vitrium introduced several behind-the-scenes security enhancements designed to address emerging threats and reduce the risk of unauthorized access or data exposure. These improvements further strengthen Vitrium's content protection controls:

  • New data anonymization utility that further tightens Vitrium's already-high security measures
  • Prevent tech-savvy users from manipulating the DOM to take screenshots*
  • Expanded our screen capture prevention* control to a 3rd advanced level:

    • Level 1 - Basic: blocking certain screen print shortcut keys

    • Level 2 - Moderate: blurring content when user clicks their cursor outside of web viewer window

    • Level 3 - Advanced (new): blurring content when user simply moves their mouse outside of the web viewer window (best option to prevent 3rd party screen capture)

*Vitrium's screen capture prevention feature will not block all screen capture events but it will greatly reduce the number of attempts. Vitrium always recommends our customers block printing of their content, add user-identifying watermarks to their content, and add a strong copyright protection statement to signal that the content's information and copyright belongs to your organization and is not to be shared, downloaded or redistributed in any way. Vitrium also embeds a 'hidden watermark' on every page of the web viewer content that can be used to help identify culprits who have taken screen prints of your content. 10. Keeping Critical Back-end Components Up To Date

Maintaining a secure and reliable DRM platform requires continuous updates behind the scenes as well. In 2025, Vitrium focused on modernizing and updating various back-end components to ensure long-term stability, stronger security, and a scalable foundation that supports ongoing innovation. Some of these back-end updates included:
  • Updated the web viewer back-end to make it more modular and flexible for our customers
  • Updated the AES encryption library to take advantage of stronger encryption controls
  • Modernized the end user portal with an updated architecture to support faster performance, improved reliability, and a better user experience

Protect Your Content. Protect Your Business.

The updates released throughout 2025 reflect Vitrium’s ongoing commitment to strengthening security while improving usability and flexibility. From enhanced encryption and updated compliance standards to smoother user experiences and more efficient integrations, each improvement was designed to support real-world content protection needs.

As digital risks continue to evolve, Vitrium remains focused on delivering reliable, modern DRM that protects digital content without getting in the way of users. These updates are shaped by real customer feedback, so please keep sharing your thoughts as they help guide what we build next!
